A revamped 1.2 km stretch near the river has become the city's newest spot for morning walks, with native trees, seating and a cycle lane.
Pune’s early risers have a new favourite route. The recently opened riverfront walkway along the Mula-Mutha has quickly become a gathering point for walkers, joggers and families, offering a calm green corridor in the heart of the city.
The 1.2 km stretch includes a separated cycle lane, shaded seating, and native tree plantings chosen to attract local birds. Lighting and clear signage make the early-morning and evening hours comfortable and safe.
Accessible public space is one of the simplest ways a city improves daily life. Residents have described the walkway as a welcome place to start the day — proof that small, well-maintained civic projects can have an outsized effect on neighbourhood wellbeing.
“It’s the first thing I look forward to in the morning now,” said one Deccan resident on the opening weekend.
The civic body has indicated that two more stretches are planned, extending the walkway over the next year.
