Baner's weekend running group quietly grew into a 400-strong community

What started as four friends on a Sunday jog is now one of the city's friendliest running clubs — and a feeder for first-time marathoners.

It began with four friends meeting for a Sunday jog. Three years on, Baner’s running group counts more than 400 members and has helped dozens of residents finish their first half-marathon.

Open to everyone

There are no fees and no qualifying pace — the only rule is to show up. Experienced runners pair with beginners, and the group’s pace teams mean nobody finishes alone.

Health, made social

Organisers credit the club’s growth to its welcoming culture. In a city that loves its mornings, it’s a model of how sport can build community as much as fitness.
