Volunteers and a local trust spent eighteen months restoring the heritage reading room, which now lends books again — and hosts weekend story hours.
One of Pune’s oldest reading rooms is open again. After an eighteen-month restoration led by volunteers and a local trust, the Camp library has returned to its original purpose — lending books and welcoming readers of every age.
The team prioritised preservation: original woodwork was repaired rather than swapped out, and the reading room’s character has been kept intact. New additions are modest — better lighting, a children’s corner, and accessible seating.
Weekend story hours have already begun, and membership has reopened at a nominal fee. For a neighbourhood rich in history, it’s a reminder that heritage works best when it stays useful.
