A vacant plot in Baner has been transformed into a thriving community garden, thanks to residents and a local nursery who decided the space deserved better.
More than 200 saplings have gone into the ground so far, with weekend gardening sessions drawing families, students and retirees alike. The garden includes a composting corner and a small nursery for residents to take cuttings home.
Organisers say the project cost very little — mostly time, saplings and goodwill. It’s a reminder that some of the best neighbourhood improvements start with a few people and an empty patch of land.
